Recap / Captain N The Game Master S 1 E 5 Mega Trouble For Megaland

Go To

Continued from the previous episode. The N Team manages to escape from the Warp Zone to Oblivion after all, but after returning find Mother Brain's conquered Mount Icarus already and set out to conquer Megaland next. Simon and Kid Icarus go to steal the power items guarded by Medusa that can destroy the Three Sacred Treasures, while the rest of the team head to Megaland to try to slow down the conquest.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Cut Man...sorry, Cuts Man, generally regarded as one of the easier bosses from Mega Man. Here he laughs off everything the N Team throws at him, until Duke distracts him so he gets stabbed by his own scissors.
    • Also Big Eye, who's much bigger than in the games and who Captain N has to trick into falling off the edge of a building to be defeated.
  • Adaptational Wimp:
    • Medusa's more like she was in the legends, a snake-haired lady who can turn people to stone with her ugliness, than the goddess of darkness she was in Kid Icarus.
    • The other five Robot Masters, who all go down in one shot.
  • Decomposite Character: An inanimate object variant. The previous episode was about Mother Brain gathering the Three Sacred Treasures, three treasure chests containing unstoppable magical power. In the Kid Icarus game, after the player collects all three chests, they open and reveal the real Three Sacred Treasures, the power items Simon and Kid Icarus have to steal from Medusa.
  • An Ice Person: Ice Man with his freeze ray.
  • Informed Attribute: The Warp Zone that Mother Brain sent the N Team into was supposed to be inescapable, but they're back unscathed within minutes (relative to them, anyway).
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Simon uses the mirror shield to absorb a blast from Fire Man. Seemingly not aware it would actually work.
  • No Ontological Inertia:
    • After Medusa's tricked into turning herself to stone, all her victims change back to normal, and go on to get rid of King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard while the N Team's busy with the main threat.
    • When the three sacred treasures are destroyed, the Robot Masters who'd been revived by them are destroyed too.
  • Plothole: When the N Team finally brings down Cuts Man, Captain N says that compared to the rest of the Robot Masters he's just a wimp. Kevin seems to be forgetting they actually defeated the other five Robot Masters in a shootout right before getting to Cuts Man (seemingly done to compress the runtime).
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: The six Robot Masters, just like they were in the actual game.
  • Shared Life-Meter: Mega Man's shown to have a version of his game's energy meter on his wrist. It seems to apply to all damage he, Kevin, Lana and Duke might take.
  • Shot in the Ass: Self-inflicted on Cuts Man.
  • Title Drop: When the N Team find themselves stuck in the maze of warp zones. Not the title of this episode, but the title of a future episode!
  • Video-Game Lives: The N Team is crushed by Big Eye before the mid-episode commercial break. After we come back they respawn at the start of the level, with a warning that they only have two chances left. Any further implications of this happening are never brought up.
  • The Voiceless: Out of the six Robot Masters who appear, only one of them gets a single line.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: Inverted. The N Team feel like they've only been in the Warp of Oblivion for a little while, but a week's passed while they were gone.
