"Rest in Peace, Marina Garito" is the 18th episode of Season 6 and the 135th overall. It originally aired April 7, 2010.
The twin sister of a boy who has been missing for more than a decade is found dead. Sid rules it a suicide, which does not sit well with Stella at all. She sets out to prove it was murder, and nearly gets herself killed in the process.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Abusive Parents: The twins' step-father had been abusive to them as children.
  • Comforting Comforter: After Stella has closed the old case that had been haunting her, Mac finds her asleep on the couch in her office and covers her with a blanket before he leaves for the night.
  • The Dissenter Is Always Right: While everyone else seems to agree with Sid about the woman having killed herself, Stella is adamant it was murder because the woman had contacted her every week about her missing brother. Then, the ER doctor who had examined the victim makes an off-hand comment to Mac which leads to proof that Stella was right all along.
  • Dream Intro: Opens with Stella dreaming that she gets in a traffic accident and is helped out of her vehicle by a young woman. She awakes with a start, and that day gets presented with a new case - the murder of the very woman she was dreaming about, the now-adult sister of the missing boy.
  • Never Suicide: Because the woman has called Stella every Monday for updates on her brother's case, Stella refuses to believe she would kill herself before he is found.
  • Offing the Offspring: A slight variation. The killer turns out to be the twins' step-father.
  • Pillow Silencer: One of these ultimately leads to the killer's undoing. He overthinks things and returns to the scene of the crime to retrieve the pillow matching the one he'd used to muffle the sound of his gunshot and which he had taken with him.
  • Unintentional Final Message: At the end of the episode, Stella receives a letter from the victim, mailed the morning the young woman was killed. After years of searching... and calling Stella about it every week, she had finally figured out what had happened to her brother. She was letting it go and planning to move on with her life by relocating to Boston.
