Ponch and John hit the highway to catch two motorcycle-riding supermarket robbers. Unfortunately, someone has it in for Ponch, calling him out for incompetency. Ponch also tries to top John in a game of bowling, but both stop a fraud from taking place.
Tropes appearing in this episode are:
- Blackmail Backfire: Sidney Ingelhart (played by Marty Ingles) tries to make Ponch look bad with some incriminating photos, but the officer points out the TRUE DETAILS behind each photo, including giving a warning about an expired license to Broderick Crawford!
- Epic Fail: Ponch trying to beat John in a game of bowling... with John embarrassing him badly.
- John had forgotten to give back Broderick Crawford's ink pen and got called out for it! WHOOPS!!
- And not only this happens to Sidney when he was trying to nail Ponch on incompetency charges, Ponch then asks for duplicates and blow-ups of the photos that had himself with John and Broderick Crawford in it, vexing the sneaky photographer to no end!
- The Cameo: Ponch and John give a warning about an expired license to none other than Broderick Crawford, star of Highway Patrol, a show that preceded CHiPs 22 years prior!
- Too Dumb to Live: A man tries to help a lady and her baby out of a car with downed power lines on in, steps in a puddle of water near them... it goes about as expected. Ponch and John ends up rescuing the rescuer.
