Recap / Bull S 6 EP 7 Confidence Man

Go To

Dr. Jason Bull's case becomes harder as the bribe he's been accused of offered is revealed to come from his wife's bank account.

Tropes:

  • Foreshadowing: The lawyer representing Smokestack complains that she had to take half the usual pay for working the appeal otherwise Smokestack wouldn't even pay her for her work on the original trial. It turns out she made it seem like Bull bribed a juror back then because she already lost so many big clients and cases her law firm threatened to fire her.
  • Oh, Crap!: The TAC employees spying on their suspect of bribing a juror into falsely accusing Bull have this reaction when it turns out said suspect called the authorities.
  • Plea Bargain: Bull briefly considers offering one in exchange for his wife not to be prosecuted but she talks him out of it.
  • Red Herring: The CEO of the company that lost the case Bull was accused of bribing a juror in is the main suspect and it doesn't help his case that his wife is in a position of power to offer the favor the juror received in exchange for falsely accusing Bull. It turns out the company's lawyer did it to avoid losing her job.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Marissa, Taylor and Chunk start suspecting the bribed juror took something other than money as a bribe when they assume the mention of money in the e-mail they sent to Arnold Clayton was what clued him to the fact the juror wasn't the one who sent it. While it turns out the bribe really was something else, Clayton wasn't the one who bribed him.
  • Shout-Out: During Bull's trial, the character claiming to have accepted a bribe from him describes the bribe as "a Golden Ticket".
