Recap / Brave Witches Ep 9 Break Witches

Go To

Kanno successfully destroys a Neuroi, but damages her new Shiden Kai Striker Unit in the process, causing her to get chewed out by Sasha and it is explained by Sasha that Kanno is one-third of a group (along with Nippa and Krupinsky) informally known as the Break Witches for the number of Striker Units they destroy. The Brave Witches are ordered to defend the newly captured Petrozavodsk from advancing Neuroi in advance of the upcoming main assault on Grigori. Sasha is injured protecting Kanno, and the Brave Witches are forced to briefly withdraw. The next morning another the Brave Witches re-engage under Rossman's command due to the injuries to Sasha and Krupinsky (who has a broken ankle from the previous episode). The Neuroi splits up forcing the Brave Witches to split into two groups, one led by Rossman consisting of Shimohara and Lemare and the other led by Kanno supported by Nippa and Hikari. On the verge of defeat, Hikari requests and receives approval from Rall to use Contact Eye, allowing Kanno to destroy the Neuroi. Meanwhile, Takami awakens from her coma in a hospital in Maizuru.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Bewildering Punishment: Sasha punishes Krupinsky along with the other Break Witches towards the end of this episode, even though Krupinsky wasn't even there.
  • The Cameo: Yoshika Miyafuji from Strike Witches appears in The Stinger attending to Takami.
  • Captain Crash: Naoe lives up to her status as one of the Break Witches by crashing her Shiden Kai Striker Unit during a Neuroi Battle.
  • Convenient Coma: Takami has no ill-effects whatsoever when she wakes up after three months. Possibly Hand Waved by having Miyafuji using healing magic on her.
  • The Stinger: In the post-credits scene, Yoshika Miyafuji is tending to Takami Karibuchi, who regains consciousness in a hospital bed.
  • Taking the Bullet: Sasha for Kanno. Sasha does survive with relatively minor injuries, but is unable to participate in the battle the next morning.
