After getting the third piece of the Compass, Scarlett sends the Vault Hunters into The Rustyards, east of Wurmwater after passing through a heavily-armed Bandit camp, with a gift for Herbert, the titular Hermit. This is where "The Hermit" begins. She also tells you that Herbert used to be welcome in Scarlett's ship because of how much he knows about Captain Blade's treasure. She also sacked him because, well, he ended up infatuated with her.
After you talk to Herbert, the mission "The Hermit" will be complete, and a new mission "Crazy About You" will be given to the Vault Hunters. In it, not only the players must get the Compass piece but also five ECHO recorders to be delivered to her.
The mission takes place in The Rustyards, with the sidequests "Message in a Bottle" and "Catch a Ride and Also Tetanus" also take place. In addition, the area is home to the challenges "Crow's Nest", "Cult of the Vault" and "My Main Squeeze".

- Discard and Draw: "Captain Blade's Otto Idol", the reward for completing "Message in a Bottle (The Rustyards)", is a relic that allows the carrier to restore health by killing enemies in exchange for a reduction in "Fight For Your Life" time (thus making the carrier more respawn-vulnerable).
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The shot required to open the chest at the end of "Crazy About You" also broke the last compass piece.
- Stalker Shrine: Herbert has one in his home with loads of stuff about Scarlett.
- Stalker with a Crush: Herbert is so obsessed with Scarlett to the point of even recording her snoring. 48 times.
