Recap / Bones S 3 E 3 Death In The Saddle

Go To

A corpse is discovered in a forest. It seems like murder because his feet were cut off, and he seems to have been treated like a horse, which leads the investigators to a resort for, as Booth puts it, a "sex thing" were people pretend to be horses and riders.

Tropes

  • Chekhov's Gun: Whilst discussing the body du jour, the team serenades a typically unaware Brennan with the theme song to Mister Ed, followed by Brennan's horse research online and her trying the joke where horses sleep in hotels note  on Booth (who naturally gets it—as he says, he's got a five year old son). Wouldn't you know it, the victim in question does pony play in an inn as "Mister Ed".
  • Groin Attack: Brennan, when presented with a fleeing suspect, threatens one unambiguously. The suspect stopped and Booth collared him, but you just know Brennan would have done it.
Booth: (repeating it afterward) "Stop, or I'll kick you in the testicles"??
    Brennan: Well, it worked.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Hodgins thinks it's funny that a victim named Ed shows evidence of having worn a bridle. Cam and Booth catch on to the reference, but Brennan has no idea what "a horse is a horse, of course, of course" means.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Cam is trying to think of a reason to have called Brennan in other than "trying to get Booth and Bones on a case together". Booth points out that the victim's feet are missing. Cam immediately says that she called Brennan in because the feet are missing.
