Recap / BoBoiBoy S1 E7 "Game On!"

Go To

A caped superhero taller than the buildings around him confronts a clawed monster just as large. The hero identifies himself as Papa Zola, (Enemy of Evil and Defender of The Truth!). The monster falls asleep during his monologue, much to his frustration. The monster replies that he's the Sleep Monster so it is to be expected. When Papa Zola laughs at such a theme for a foe, the monster attacks him with a Sleeping Wave, but Papa powers through the fatigue with his willpower and returns an attack of a flying kick, and the screen turns black.

Gopal disdainfully asks why BoBoiBoy turned off the TV, to which the latter replies that the show is nonsensical. They briefly argue before Gopal suggests they play the new Papa Zola video game, and BoBoiBoy enthusiastically joins him. Tok Aba warns them against playing for too long, but he finds them still playing 5 hours later. Tok Aba says playing too long would get them sucked into the game, but he never expects that to happen literally when the TV screen glows and BoBoiBoy and Gopal disappear.

Adu Du's doing is the cause of it. Probe appears in the game to tell the heroes that they are trapped in the video game and have to win to get out . Tok Aba and Ochobot are forced to use the boys' controllers to get them through the game, eventually summoning Yaya and then Ying as they progress further, since they knew how to beat it.

Super Probe and Adu Du himself become the Final Bosses, but with the girls' help, they are soon defeated. Adu Du demands Computer to get them out despite that doing so would release BoBoiBoy and Gopal as well, and all four of them exit the game back to their respective places. To everyone's surprise, however, they weren't the only ones who got taken out of the game...

This episode provides examples of:

  • Auto-Scrolling Level: When Yaya/Hanna chickens out of fighting enemies in the game due to being too afraid to defeat them and causes Gopal to go backwards, Adu Du has his computer make the level auto-scroll to force BoBoiBoy and Gopal to proceed.
  • Fictional Video Game: "Papa Zola 5: Truth in the Alley of Darkness", the game which BoBoiBoy and Gopal play and get stuck inside, and have to win to get out.
  • Gilligan Cut: Gopal promises to Tok Aba that he and BoBoiBoy will only play for five more minutes. Cue a "Five hours later..." time card.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: BoBoiBoy disses a Papa Zola episode saying it is cheesy, and Gopal replies saying animation is hard.
BoBoiBoy: It's just a cartoon, man. How hard can it be?
  • Proscenium Reveal: This episode starts off in a completely different setting; the caped superhero Papa Zola and the Sleep Monster tower over a city, about to battle. When Papa Zola's flying kick goes through a Repeat Cut, the last of the three cuts displays on a TV screen which turns black. Gopal asks BoBoiBoy why he turned the TV off, and he replies that the show is nonsensical and just a cartoon that would air again anyway.
  • Tempting Fate: Lampshaded by Tok Aba after he says that if the boys play the game for too long, they'd get trapped in it. Gopal asks how that could ever happen, then the screen sucks him and BoBoiBoy into the game.
Tok Aba: Me and my big mouth...
  • Television Portal: It is through the TV screen that people are summoned into and out of the game world. Tok Aba's TV screen glows before sucking BoBoiBoy and Gopal in, and Adu Du later is tossed through his own screen to join in the final battle with Super Duper Probe. The Running Gag of Adu Du throwing his mug at Probe persists, as the former angrily tosses a mug into his screen and it appears in the game world to bounce off Probe's head.
  • Trapped in TV Land: The basis of the plot. Adu Du traps BoBoiBoy and Gopal in their game, and they have to win to exit; otherwise, they'll be trapped forever.
  • Win to Exit: Probe explains to BoBoiBoy and Gopal that they have to win the video game to get out of it (much to his boss' ire).

Super Duper Probe

At the end of the video game that BoBoiBoy and Gopal are trapped in, they have to fight Adu Du and Probe, the latter of which turns into a giant form that takes up the background. They attack his arms and eyes before defeating him.
