Recap / Bluey Work

Go To

The Heeler girls are sitting on chairs, and they tell Bandit they're waiting for a "job interview" because they're "playing work". Bandit wants the job to involve dancing, but Bluey wants it to involve making drainpipes, and he calls her "boss", but she wants him to be the boss.

Bandit "interviews" his daughters, but Bluey says she's not a hard worker, and Bingo pretends to be a frog. Despite this, he "hires" both girls and claims that he once dreamed of starting a dancing workplace. They then start playing, and while Bandit pretends to be on the phone, Bluey pretends to slack off. Bandit comes in and pretends to scold his "employee".

When he pretends to have another phone call, Bluey decides to start playing the boss instead and has Bingo throw some papers on the floor and jump on them. When Bandit comes back, Bluey says she's the boss now. She makes Bandit be her chair, clean the windows with his bottom, and mop the floor with his tongue. Then, when Bingo dances, Bandit tells her to stop and grabs her front paws, but then Bluey thinks he's dancing and "fires" him.

Outside, Bandit is sadly trying to continue playing, but Wendy looks at him funny and then it rains. Bingo takes pity on him, so she goes outside (still acting like a frog) and has him dance. Bluey comes out and is actually impressed by her father's dancing.

Then, Chilli comes out, pretending to be a ballerina whose dance partner has an injured ankle. Bandit agrees to be her dance partner, and they dance while the girls watch.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal:
    • Bandit, then later Bluey, wears a tie when "playing work".
    • Then Chilli wears a pretty hat and gloves when being a ballerina.
    • Then Bingo wears sunglasses.
  • Career Not Taken: Parodied when Bandit roleplays as a worker in a drainpipe factory who wanted to be a professional dancer instead and becomes one after being fired.
  • Cue the Rain: Bandit was "fired", Wendy looks at him funny for continuing to play while outside, and then it rains.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Chilli (whose name is already a food) calls herself Pavlova in the game.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: While doing ballet, Bandit wears pants and shoes, while Chilli wears a tutu.
  • Happy Dance: Bingo, despite pretending to be a frog, does a little dance when she's "hired", causing Bluey to snap, "I said no dancing!".
  • Hard Truth Aesop: Sometimes, good things come to people who don't deserve it, and bad things don't always happen to them. Bluey's employee persona is a Lazy Bum who eventually usurps her Boss Bandit, and in the end, she doesn't meet any consequences for her actions.
  • Intentional Mess Making: When being the boss, Bluey has Bingo throw the papers on the floor and jump on them.
  • Joke of the Butt: Bluey has Bandit clean a window with his bottom, and he does so in front of Wendy.
  • Karma Houdini: Boss Bluey faces no direct karma for upending Bandit as a boss, being a generally unkind boss and unfairly firing Bandit for dancing.
  • Lazy Bum: Parodied. Bluey initially plays a lazy employee who reclines on the couch while her boss talks on the phone and even takes pride in her laziness.
  • Makes As Much Sense In Context: In the girls' latest game of "Work", Bingo is a frog. Who works at the office.
  • Mean Boss: Bluey plays this role after taking over from Bandit during the game. She makes Bandit act as her chair, clean the windows with his bottom, lick the floor clean, then fires him for dancing on the job.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Boss Bluey runs a strict-no-dancing workplace, so when Bandit sees Bingo dancing he tries to stop her before Bluey catches her. Unfortunately it looks like Bandit's dancing instead, so Bluey fires him.
  • Mooning: Bandit unintentionally does this to Wendy while he’s “Cleaning” the window with his bottom.
  • Pet the Dog: In-character, Bluey is a Bad Boss who fired Bandit's character for allegedly dancing. But when she first-hand sees Bandit's potential as a dancer, even she sincerely admits he's got talent.
  • Tragic Dream: Boss Bandit once wanted to run a dancing workplace because of his love for dancing, but then ended up running a drainpipe-making factory instead. Fortunately after he's fired, his dancing in the streets is seen by a famous ballerina (actually Chilli) whose usual partner has sprained his foot and his dreams come true.
