Recap / Black Lightning 2018 S 3 E 11 Lynns Addiction

Go To

Jefferson, Anissa, and Jennifer discover that the ASA is now hunting the entire Pierce family. Meanwhile, Lynn does the unthinkable.

  • Back from the Dead: Lady Eve is revealed to have been revived the same way as Lala.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: Subverted, as while Gambi threatens to torture Odell, he never planned on going through with it, merely collecting enough voice samples to fake him ordering the ASA out.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Lala, Tobias and Grace, all of whom were absent for a few episodes.
    • Lady Eve, who's been dead since Season 1.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Lynn wasn't stupid enough to just break out and empower Tobias - she also gave herself powers and knocks him out when he tries to doublecross her.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Lala targets Lady Eve's operation.
  • Fighting from the Inside: TC reads through the mind control chip that a part of Khalil still loves Jennifer.
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: Gambi reveals that Lady Eve used to be an ASA operative herself.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Lynn is forced to break out Tobias from ASA confinement to keep producing the cure.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Jefferson learns about Odell making Jennifer his Child Soldier.
    • Brandon learns about the secret identities of all the Pierces.
    • Lala learns about Lady Eve being Back from the Dead (Gambi still thinks she is dead).
  • It's a Small World, After All: Odell is from Gotham. Post-Crisis at least.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Subverted. Gambi and the Pierces pretend they're going to torture Odell and then kill him when they're done with him. However, they don't actually need any information from him, they only needed to keep him talking long enough to record enough samples of his voice to make a CGI Odell.
  • Karma Houdini: Due to the confusion of Khalil still being alive causing Jennifer to attack her family, Major Grey is able to exfiltrate Odell.
  • Mook–Face Turn: Sergeant Grayle, having finally decided that killing innocent kids is Not What I Signed Up For, assists Lynn in breaking out Tobias.
  • More Expendable Than You: Grayle insists on Lynn testing her power-granting drug on him instead of herself.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Since Gambi was the one who put him in a pod in the first place, he sees rescuing TC's life as this.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jennifer attacking her family, trying to stop them from hurting Khalil gives Major Grey the opportunity to flee with Odell.
  • Not So Stoic: Odell surely tries to act like a Defiant Captive, quoting Martin Luther King and even the Bible while justifying his actions to Gambi and the Pierces, but he is visibly scared by the thought of being tortured.
  • Third Line, Some Waiting:
    • The A-Plot is about trying to get Odell, with most of the main cast involved.
    • The B-Plot is about Lynn and Sergeant Grayle trying to break out Tobias.
    • The C-Plot is about an impending gang war between Lala and Lady Eve.
  • This Is Unforgivable!:
    • After Jefferson learns about Odell making Jennifer a Child Soldier, he becomes hellbent on stopping, possibly even torturing or killing him.
    • On the bad guys' side, Major Grey decides that the capture of Odell warrants the execution of the entire Pierce family.
  • Twerp Sweating: Jefferson promises to castrate Brandon if he lays a hand on Jennifer.
  • Wham Shot: Just as Grayle and Lynn want to load up an unconscious Tobias, they are both stunned by a Markovian agent, who takes them captive.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jennifer is obviously angry about nobody telling her that Khalil is alive.
