  • Amusing Injuries: Bernard and Fran's in the last act.
  • Buffy Speak: "Fizzy-good-make-feel-nice".note 
  • Drunken Song: Bernard treats young Jim to an Irish ballad of questionable taste.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Manny, over-caffeinated and in over his head, plays the Good Cop so well it bamboozles the suspect into confessing.
  • Groin Attack: Self-inflicted by Manny when he 'sits on himself'.
  • Hangover Sensitivity: Initially averted when Bernard wakes up with such a bad hangover he actually screams before he goes out to get some fizzy-good-make-feel-nice.
  • Instant Soprano: When Manny 'sits on himself' for a third time.
  • Joke of the Butt: Bernard denies having done Cobumbo at the party. By analogy with his Belly Savalas, it presumably would've involved holding a cigar between his buttocks.
  • Metaphorgotten: Bernard tries:
    Bernard: They blanked me! That's an incredibly powerful thing to do in civilised society! It's like, it's like when the Mafia send each other...fish in the post!
  • Mind Your Step: How Bernard broke his arm.
  • Never My Fault: When Bernard learns the truth about what he did, he doesn't think it was bad at all.
  • Noodle Incident: Bernard drunkenly rambled at the dinner party about beating an 8-year-old at something again and again.
  • Pet the Dog: Bernard gives young Jim a five-pound note. Before immediately taking it back. In fairness, it was less out of spite, and more out of being totally hammered.
  • Sickening "Crunch!": Fran's neck makes a nasty sound when her boyfriend tries to turn her head.
  • Taking the Bullet: Parodied. Manny tackles Bernard to the ground when he mistakes a customer closing a book for a gunshot.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Bernard spends the episode trying to remember what he did to offend Gerald and Sarah at their dinner party the night before.
