Tropes

  • Bait-and-Switch: Coach Steve at first seems saddened that Ms. Benitez only thinks of him as a friend, before revealing that he is actually overjoyed. This is because he's happy that she considers him a friend.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: In a meta moment, Andrew and Maurice discuss the incident where he raped Garrison Keillor's severed head and whether it went too far, Maurice claims that Netflix insisted on it.
  • Black Comedy Rape: Maurice skull-fucking Garrison Keillor's severed head.
  • Call-Back: Once again, Coach Steve mentions his illiteracy. Ms. Benitez decides to teach him how to read after she learns this.

  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Jay actually manages to successfully perform his "teleportation" trick on Jessi and Matthew, neither of whom ever rehearsed it with him and both are surprised that it seemed to have worked.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Inverted. When Coach Steve professes his love to Ms. Benitez, she gently turns him down, telling him she likes him as a friend. Instead of being hurt, Coach Steve is elated to be her friend.
  • Or Was It a Dream?: After an increasingly surreal climax, Andrew wakes up in his bed with his pants soaked in semen. He and Maurice then discuss exactly which parts of the episode were real and which weren't.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Andrew taking a vow of celibacy tests Maurice's patience to the point where he gets drunk and violent.
  • Sickening Sweethearts: Andrew and Missy's musical number is a somewhat more literal version, singing about how being in love upsets their bowels.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Andrew and Missy's song about all of the weird physical feelings they feel when they think about being in love with one another.
