Max Tennyson takes a coffee break while undercover.
Gwen's brother, Ken, has gone missing in the town of Santa Mira. Now Ben's team and Max are looking for him.- The Alleged Car: Kevin laughs at Ken's car, the Awesomemobile.Kevin: It makes the Rustbucket look like a Ferrari.
- Answer Cut: When the team realizes that the only way into the Hatchery is through the dirty water, Kevin asks "Who would be crazy enough to swim in that?". Cut to Max coming out of it.
- The Bait: Ken. He was kidnapped by the DNAliens in order to lure out Max and stop him interfering with their plans.
- Bittersweet Ending: The Xenocyte Hatchery is destroyed and Ken is saved from being turned into a DNAlien, but Grandpa Max is forced to sacrifice himself, and the end of the episode shows that the DNAliens still recover a sizable number of Xenocytes from the Hatchery's wreckage.
- Bond One-Liner: At the beginning of the episode, Max enters a diner and orders some cofee. The waitress brings a Xenocyte to him, revealing she's a DNAlien. He beats both them up, after which he says:I said just coffee.
- Conspicuous Trenchcoat: Max's outfit at the beginning of the episode.
- Cool Old Guy: Max. He's able to overpower a DNAlien, as well as go toe-to-toe with a Highbreed.
- Family Theme Naming: Lampshaded by Kevin when he learns Gwen's brother's name is Ken.Kevin: Gwen and Ken Tennyson? What's your folks' names, Sven and Jen? I'm talking to you, Ben!
- Glamour Failure: A thunder bolt reveals that two mechanics are in fact DNAliens.
- Heroic Sacrifice: In order to halt the Highbreed's plans, Max turns his Null Void Projector into a grenade and detonates it, destroying himself and the Hatchery in the process. Until he's revealed to be alive.
- Painful Transformation: Ken's transformation into a DNAlien isn't a pretty process. It's all but implied that his transformation took place over the span of hours, and his words are a mix of maliciousness and begging for someone to help.
- Remember the New Guy?: The episode treats Ken as if he appeared before and was important, but, while he indeed was mentioned in the pop-up trivia for the original series, Ken never appeared in a episode in-person before or since.
- The Reveal: That DNAliens are in fact humans, who have been infected by parasites called Xenocytes.
- Sole Survivor:
Word of God confirms that all but one of the DNAliens were killed by Max’s grenade. - Wham Episode: Grandpa Max sacrifices himself in order to halt the Highbreed's plans, leaving Ben all alone to lead the battle against them. Next season reveals he's alive, though.
