You know what they say in Minecraft

The fourteenth episode of Battle for BFDI, the 45th episode of the overall series, and a direct continuation of the episode prior. The challenge is still having to find X's treasure. While playing around in an inverted planet, Team Ice Cube accidentally causes a lava leak, which ends up flooding the entirety of North Goiky. Bleh loses the challenge.

Tropes include:

  • Anyone Can Die: Over half the cast dies because of the lava flood, and only 29 out of the 54 remaining contestants are left alive by the end of the episode.
  • Apocalypse How: Spongy ends up cracking open a magma vein from underground, and by the end of the episode, the entirety of North Goiky is flooded with lava.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Naily is this to Balloony. After he tries to dig through concrete, Naily tells him that it is pointless since no one can dig through it.
  • Darker and Edgier: The lava kills over half of the contestants, and this continues into the next episode.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Spongy ditches his team in his rocket ship and leaves them to find another way out of the tunnels just because they forgot about him.
    • Made even worse by the fact that Donut sacrificed himself to save Spongy from said lava outbreak literally 10 seconds earlier.
  • Foil: Spongy and Bomby. While both are characters who have often been used to win challenges by others in the past, they respond to the grave danger from the lava flood very differently. Spongy remorselessly leaves his team to die after being saved by Donut, even though they could easily ride on top of his spaceship to safety. While Bomby, on the other hand, willingly explodes himself to launch his teammates out of danger.
  • Freudian Excuse: Book reveals that she was acting like a jerk to Taco because she felt it was FreeSmart-like behavior and she wanted to protect herself and Ice Cube from it.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Team Ice Cube discovers an underground world, which Donut describes as a "Buried Forest, Deciduously Insulated".
  • Heroic Sacrifice: This episode is full of them. Although the contestants don't end up dying for good due to the fact that Death Is Cheap, these can still change relationships rather quickly. Noteworthy examples include:
    • Donut, being the first of many to die to the lava, does this in order to get Spongy to safety while trying to escape the inverted planet.
    • Bomby offering to ignite himself in order to get Gelatin, Naily, and Barf Bag to the surface.
    • Book sacrificing herself in order to save Taco, someone who she used to hate for nearly the entire season.
    • Naily and Cake sacrificing themselves to get Woody, someone on a completely different team from either of them, to safety and win for his team.
  • Karma Houdini: Spongy caused the whole lava outbreak and then refused to save his teammates for petty reasons, yet he's one of the survivors by the end of the episode.
  • Medium-Shift Gag: When Woody goes through the garbage chute, he is briefly seen in live-action, a reference to the live-action joke video "BFDI APPISIOTE 225555555!!!!!", which was created to trick viewers into thinking BFDI 25 had been released. Said video was responsible for introducing Foldy, Stapy and Liy.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Book finally forgoes her grudge against Taco to launch her and Ice Cube out of the way of the rising lava at the cost of her life.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The title has one to Minecraft, referencing the fact that people shouldn't dig straight down or else they might fall straight into lava.
    • To Undertale when Lightning calls Flower "Flowey".
  • Snarking Thanks: When Gelatin and Barf Bag make it out of the hole:
Barf Bag: (sarcastically) Thanks for the ride, Spongy.
Spongy: I told you, there's only one seat!
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Dora begins to sport one as of this episode.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Spongy, who leaves his team to die in the lava flood that he caused all because they couldn't realize that he was being impersonated in BFB 12.
  • Verbal Backspace: Done by Four after Free Food cheats their way through the contest:
Four: Nice emeralds! I love a team that commits forgery!
    [All of Free Food scream]
Four: ...commits for Dream Island! You really committed to winning Battle for Dream Island!
  • Wall Jump: When A Better Name Than That finds their emerald, they start to come back up to the surface by jumping on and off the walls of their tunnel.
