Go To

Bruce finds the manor suspiciously devoid of his many children on Christmas. Then goes into the city to see them at the various volunteering positions they're at for the day.

Tropes

  • Ambiguously Jewish: A Menorah can be seen while Alfred is putting up decorations, but it isn't clear who it's for.
  • Christmas Episode: The Bat-family does various acts of community service before returning to the manor for Christmas dinner.
  • Dreaming of a White Christmas: Gotham is covered in a blanket of clean white snow, which is still drifting down throughout the day to keep it looking as such. There is a slight nod at how dangerous such weather can be for the less fortunate with various Bat members helping out at soup kitchens and other places for people to stay inside where it's warm during the day.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Looking closely reveals that Bruce's tracking symbol for Jason is still the Robin symbol.
  • Group Hug: When the Bat-kids come in from their day of volunteering, Bruce hugs as many people as he can fit his arms around. When Dick asks why, Bruce says he saw some things that put him in the holiday spirit.
  • Hero Does Public Service: On Christmas all of the Bat-family members are out volunteering in Gotham. Some of them are implied to volunteer at the place they're spending Christmas regularly while it's left vague for others. Alfred explicitly refers to it as "being heroes" and tells Bruce that there's more than one way to save the day when he points out that most of the family wouldn't be patrolling during the day.
    • Dick and Kate are working in a soup kitchen.
    • Jason, Tim, and Luke are coaching/refereeing a basketball match.
    • Barbara, Stephanie, and Cassandra are helping kids build snowmen.
    • Duke and Damian are walking dogs from the animal shelter.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Damian and Duke choose to spend Christmas Day volunteering with homeless dogs. When Bruce comes by to look in on them, Duke is holding three dogs' leashes and grinning, and Damian is petting one dog while telling it that they'll find them forever homes soon.
  • The Hilarity of Hats: Dick, naturally, is wearing a reindeer-antler headband while volunteering at the soup kitchen.
  • Holiday Volunteering: The Waynes and other Bat-family members volunteer around Gotham for Christmas.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: Jason has torn off the sleeves of a red t-shirt to make his coach's shirt, thus underlining his rougher personality. Luke, who tells Jason to make it a clean game this time, and Tim, who's coaching the other team, are both wearing unaltered t-shirts.
