Recap / Babylon Berlin S 4 E 11

Go To

The press assume that the police intentionally killed all the Ringvereine leaders, or manipulated them into killing each other, and are overjoyed, causing Grzesinski to decide to allow that interpretation to stand, to the shock of Gereon and Gennat. It is revealed to the audience that Böhm smuggled the Armenian and his machine gun into the file closet, in exchange for paying off all his debts and buying him a new flat. Wegener meets with Gold and gives him the Blue Rothschild, confessing that he, on Annemarie's orders, bombed the ship carrying her husband and Gold's father. Nyssen and Helga discover that they cannot obtain probate on Annemarie's estate for ten years unless a body is found, but when they have the sunken barge searched by divers, there is nothing there. Wendt interrogates MaLu and she names Kulanin as her co-conspirator, but not Völcker. Later, Wendt meets Major-General Seegers at Nyssen's home and tells him that MaLu will be punished as a traitor. The Armenian meets Esther at "his" grave, furiously berates her for her relationship with Walter, and abducts their children. Moritz overhears Grzesinski and Gereon discussing their plot to destroy the SA, and tells Stennes.

Tropes:

  • Chalk Outline: There are several in the main conference room at police headquarters after Edgar showed up and killed all of the gangsters at the summit.
  • I Have This Friend: Wegener initially describes the bomber to Gold as a worthless and lost man, and only confesses that it was him at gunpoint.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Böhm has a brief breakdown when his wife presses him on how he got the money for their new flat.
  • Never Found the Body: Annemarie's body is missing from the barge. Böhm saw an old woman's body floating down the Spree when he contemplated suicide in the previous episode, but it was too brief a shot to confirm to the audience that it was Annemarie.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: Gereon and Gennat both offer to resign over the massacre at the peace conference, but Grzesinski refuses when he discovers that the media approve of what they think was a police summary execution.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Grzesinski's reaction when he discovers that the press thinks that the police killed all the gangsters and approve.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Gereon tells the Armenian that their relationship is over, in disgust at the Armenian having killed all the gangsters.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Wendt announces his intention of having MaLu punished as a traitor even though she saved his life.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Gereon's expression when he's cheered by the uniformed cops who believe that he killed all the gangsters deliberately.
