AIM and other villains have come into possession of powerful tech that not even Tony could comprehend. When he tries to figure out the source, he accidentally brings back the futuristic Kang the Conqueror, who decides to take over AIM and attempt to rule the present Earth.
Tropes:
- Bad Boss: Rule 1 of working for Kang: Do not speak near Kang. One AIM goon makes the mistake, and gets beaten up for it.
- Bait-and-Switch: The episode begins with Hulk stalking hallways as Black Widow hides from him. She ducks through a doorway only to be confronted by the others, acting all menacing and asking if she thought she could get away... from attending the opening of an Avengers Museum.
- Cool Starship: The Sword of Damocles, Kang's base, which looks like a giant sword.
- Don't Touch It, You Idiot!: Tony naturally has to go flying into the time portal, which draws Kang's attention to the 21st century.
- Made of Iron: Whiplash survives being thrown into the walls by Hulk without apparently stopping for breath.
- Mythology Gag: A reporter name-drops Zeke Stane, Sasha Hammer and the Ten Rings Corporation as people Tony's had to deal with. The first two are foes of his from the comics, while the later is a civilian version of the people who abducted him in Iron Man.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Something's very wrong when Tony doesn't make a quip after beating Whiplash.
- Tempting Fate: Tony, having fought Whiplash before, says he can handle him. At which point Whiplash proves able to take on the entire squad.
