Recap of Ash vs. Evil Dead
Season 3, Episode 8:
Rifting Apart
- Dalton: Save Kelly and your daughter, Ash Williams. And when you send that bitch Ruby to Hell, tell her I'll be waiting.
The police have put out an arrest warrant for Ash due to him being believed as the culprit of the school dance massacre, while he and Pablo are hiding from them, mourning for Brandy and Kelly. Ash remembers about Professor Knowby talking about being stuck in a rift between time and space and decides to go in there. They see Brandy's body being carried away and come up with a plan to steal it. They steal the ambulance and notice there are more one body in the back. Ash and Pablo arrive at the store and bring one of the corpses into the cellar, and Pablo realizes the only way to safely travel through the rift is to let the evil kill them. Ash is apprehensive at first, but still agrees to the plan. He stabs himself with the dagger and dies. Pablo watches over the bodies and notices that the one from the bodybag is missing. He goes upstairs with the dagger and gets attacked by other Deadite student.
Brandy wanders in the Deadlands that resemble a nightmare version of Elk Grove and sees another student being dragged away by shadowy hands. Dalton takes her out of the shadowy creature's sight and tells her they need to move. Kelly finds them and takes them to the bar, while Ash wakes up in the Deadlands with his right hand intact in the sperm bank. He gets to the bar and meets the other three, telling them about his idea. He leads them to the store, but the creature appears once again. Dalton embarks to distract it, but instead it tries to devour the Delta with the other three inside along with him. Ash gets the car started, but it gets dragged away as well. It emerges from the ground, and Ash runs the creature over. The three get into the cellar, but the rift is still closed.
Pablo gets the Deadite's head into a vice and squeezes it so that when the Deadite tries to shake it off, it vibrates so hard the head detaches from the body. He hears Ash's voice coming from a TV and rushes into the cellar to open the rift. Kelly can't leave through it due to her body being occupied by Kaya, while Ash and Brandy end up back in the real world in their own bodies. Ash goes into the ambulance to free his daughter and tells she's still in the Deadlands, but they're not going to leave her.
Ruby and Kaya are paranoid about the Dark Ones coming for them, with a captured Zoe tossing an insult at them in Florence Latin. Suddenly, Ruby gets an idea and menaces her with a knife.
Tropes:
- Accidental Misnaming: Ash calls Dalton "Darwin", having already forgotten his name.
- Back from the Dead: Ash and Brandy return back to life after going through the rift.
- Bond One-Liner: Pablo gives a hell of a one-liner after killing the Deadite:Pablo: Es Brujo Especial... bitch.
- Bizarrchitecture: The Deadlands resemble Elk Grove, but certain pathways connect to completely different places, as Ash walks through a sperm bank door to end up in the bar.
- Cluster F-Bomb: Dalton unleashes a ton of curses at the shadowy creature in an attempt to get its attention.
- Defiant to the End: Dalton tells the shadowy creature "Go fuck yourself" before being devoured by it.
- Dragged Off to Hell: The shadowy creature that prowls the Deadlands uses numerous hands to drag its prey into the void.
- Draw Aggro: Dalton distracts the shadowy creature to give Ash, Kelly and Brandy a chance to get into the store.
- Driven to Suicide: Ash kills himself with the dagger to get to the Deadlands.
- Wrench Whack: Pablo uses a large wrench to fight off a Deadite in Ash's hardware store.
