Recap / Archies Weird Mysteries Alternate Riverdales

Go To

Archie vows vengeance on Reggie after a long day of nasty pranks. However, that soon become the least of his worries when two versions of Vinnie Wells start playing with the time stream in their own quest for revenge, altering Riverdale past and present in an attempt to take everything from him.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Archie, who normally takes Reggie's more jerky behavior with tolerant exasperation, hits his limit and vows revenge. The viewer never gets to see what he would have done, but Reggie walks around afterwards jumping at evey shadow in fear of Archie's promised payback.
  • Foreshadowing: Midway through the story, Archie tells Jughead the story of how his parents first noticed each other. Archie ends up visiting that moment while trying to keep Vinnie from retgoning him.
  • How Dad Met Mom: While trying to decide what to do about Betty and Veronica, Archie tells Jughead the story of how his mom and dad first met each other while waiting for friends at a theater. When Vinnie decides to erase him from existence, he goes to that very day, and Archie gets a chance to see things for himself.
  • I Know You Know I Know: When Archie tries to tell him he's calling off his vow of revenge, Reggie declares that he isn't fooled and he's going home to bed where he's safe. Then he starts wondering if Archie anticipated that and did something to his bed. At this point, Archie gives up.
  • Instant Humiliation Just Add Youtube: A variant; Reggie hijacks the school announcement system to make sure everyone in school (not simply in the room) hears his latest joke on Archie.
  • "Just Joking" Justification: Once Archie's patience has ended and shows Reggie just how angry he is, Reggie stammers he was only joking. Considering Reggie spent an entire day harrassing Archie and convincing Betty, Veronica, and Jughead that Archie's horrible, Archie was never going to fall for that.
  • Love at First Sight: Archie's parents fell in love after catching sight of one another while waiting for friends. Archie actually gets a chance to see the moment during his attempt to keep Vinnie from messing up history.
  • Married to the Job: Dilton tries to put off Big Ethel by telling her that his heart belongs to science.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Archie's pushed past his limit by Reggie's relentless bullying and swears he's going to make Reggie suffer. Reggie drops his usually cocky demeanor and spends the rest of the episode terrified of Archie's eventual comeback.
  • Paranoia Gambit: After a long day of Reggie picking on him, Archie vows he will eventually get revenge. This leaves Reggie sneaking around to make sure Archie can't "get" him. When Archie tries to tell him that he's given up on getting revenge, Reggie assumes it's a trick and continues being paranoid.
  • Ret-Gone: Vinnie attempts to make sure Archie's parents never meet, erasing him from the timeline. However, Archie follows him and while they're wrestling, the future Andrews parents notice each other.
  • Save the Villain: Archie tries to warn Vinnie against some of the things he tries with the time belt, and even suggests they team up to get back safely. Vinnie shoves him away and ends up vanishing.
  • Stuffed into a Trashcan: Betty and Veronica actually stuff Archie upside down into a trashcan after Reggie coaxes them on with the idea that Archie was stringing them along and intentionally playing them off each other.
  • Swapped Roles: Because of changes to the timeline, a lot of things get swapped.
    • Big Ethel has a crush on Dilton and keeps chasing him the way she normally does Jughead.
    • Veronica and Betty swap personalities, with Veronica being the down-to-earth Girl Next Door and Betty being the Jerk with a Heart of Gold rich girl.
  • Temporal Abortion: Following changing history to ruin Archie's life, this turns out to be the final stage of old Vinnie Wells revenge plan. Even despite having already succeeded in making Archie the most hated person in Riverdale and his younger self its God-Emperor, Vinnie is so full of hatred that nothing short of wiping Archie from existence will satisfy him. Thus he attempts to disrupt Archie's parents first meeting so he'll never be born. His actions only succeeding in wiping himself from history.
  • Tempting Fate: Archie retrieves the time-travel device from a locker and happily remarks that now he can fix things. Then he feels another time ripple and wonders what changed. When an angry mob comes after him, he groans that he has to stop asking questions that he doesn't want answered.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Reggie is normally an average Jerkass on a good day, but in this episode he's absolutely horrid towards Archie. First he completely humiliates Archie in front of the whole school, then he manages to turn Betty, Veronica, and Jughead against Archie by lying to all three of them (he convinced the girls Archie was deliberately making them fight against one another, and tricked Jughead into eating a veggie burger that Archie supposedly ordered for him). And he does it all for absolutely no reason beyond personal amusement.
