- All Part of the Show: Invoked in the opening when the students playing witches start throwing up and the principal races on stage to tell the audience this is not part of the show.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Bestie, who uses her deformed appearance for sympathy to manipulate others into a "friendship" to do all the twisted things she wishes she could do in public.
- Applies to River as well, who seems nice in his first scene where he signs her cast. Shelby strikes up a friendship and eventual relationship with him and everything seems like it might turn out alright before he betrays and kills her at Bestie's behest.
- Cruel Twist Ending: River has also been under the influence of Bestie, as she forces him into bringing Shelby to her house so River can murder her by stabbing her in the heart.
- Et Tu, Brute?: As River kills her, Shelby can only ask him, "Why?" It turns out that Bestie was manipulating him into doing her bidding.
- How We Got Here: The opening has students in a play suddenly being poisoned, then flashes back three months earlier to show what led to it.
