Recap / American Dad S 12 E 4 Big Stan On Campus

Go To

Stan is placed on leave in order to cover the CIA's expenditures and gets a job as a campus security guard at the local community college. Meanwhile, Roger has the rest of the family turn the house into a bed and breakfast, and find themselves catering a very unusual guest.

Tropes:

  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Upon hearing that Mr. Cavendish had an excellent stay, Roger is overjoyed that they'll be able to keep their coconut water...before realizing that he didn't actually pay anyone.
  • Pooping Where You Shouldn't: After Mr. Cavendish is revealed to be an escaped mental patient, Steve screams that he defecated all over his room, and goes into excruciating detail to describe every single nook and cranny that's now covered in shit.
"OH MY GOD! THAT MAN CRAPPED ALL OVER MY ROOM! IT'S EVERYWHERE! I KNOW IT'S HIS 'CAUSE THERE'S HOT DOG PIECES IN IT! OH GOD! IT'S BETWEEN THE MATTRESS AND THE BOX SPRING! IT'S SMUSHED INTO THE OUTLETS! IT'S UNDER THE CARPET! IT'S IN MY DVD TRAY! IT'S TRYING TO PLAY IT! IT'S WHERE THE BATTERIES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE INSIDE MY SMOKE DETECTOR! IT'S BETWEEN EVERY PAGE OF MY BOOKS! IT LOOKS LIKE MY PILLOW IS IN MY PILLOWCASE BUT IT IS NOT!"
  • Quintessential British Gentleman: Mr. Cavendish appears to be this, speaking in a posh accent and exacting high standards from the Smiths. In reality, he's an escaped mental patient.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Stan tries to impress the college students by doing the somersault fake-out from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, only to learn none of them get the reference.
    • After being knocked out by the student riot, Stan realizes that he is dreaming and is punched in order to wake up...only to wake up to Dorothy's room at the end of The Wizard of Oz.
      Stan: I'm...still unconscious, aren't I?
Hunk: One more level to go! (punch)
    • Roger's sign for the Inn Under the Attic is identical to the one from Fawlty Towers.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: "Blue Danube Waltz" by Johann Strauss II plays while Stan fights off the students with pepper spray.
  • Tempting Fate: After rescuing Stan from the riot, Bullock gives him his job back because they found more money in the budget...by doing away with helicopter maintenance. Cue the helicopter falling out of the sky.
