Recap / American Dad S 10 E 1 Steve And Snots Test Tubular Adventure

Go To

Desperate for dates to a dance, Steve and Snot use CIA equipment to clone two popular girls. Meanwhile, Stan takes care of a cloned dodo.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Steve's attempts to save Glitter from Stan are this since the CIA clones apparently die once they reach the age of their original host.
  • Clone Degeneration: Apparently, the CIA clones will die once they reach the age that the original host was upon being cloned, which happens to Glitter at the end.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Cloning Glitter and the dodo together creates... less than desirable results.
    • It didn’t occur to Snot and Steve that raising two clone baby girls into teenage hood would cause them to gain parental feelings towards them.
  • Doofy Dodo: The CIA clones a dodo, which Stan brings home. Most of the time that it's on screen, it's obliviously engaging in suicidal antics like oiling and breading itself before jumping on a frying pan, or playing with a loaded gun. It ultimately dies from perching on an antenna during a lightning storm.
  • Exact Words: When Steve and Snot agree that they can't sleep with their "daughters", Snot attempts to sleep with Glitter, telling Steve that there was nothing said about sleeping with the other's daughter.
  • Like a Daughter to Me: Glitter and Honey become this to Steve and Snot, grossing them out when Prom Night arrives.
  • Make Sure He's Dead: After Glitter's Roy Batty moment, Stan walks up beside a grieving Steve and dispassionately unloads several bullets into her corpse, softly telling Steve it's "just to be sure".
  • No Navel, Novel Birth: Due to being clones, Honey and Glitter do not have navels. Stan only realizes that the girls are clones when he tells Honey to get a belly button ring and she responds that she doesn't have a belly button.
  • Pet the Dog: One of the bullies was rather impressed Steve techinally touched a boob because he was breastfed as a baby.
  • Rapid Aging: The cloned girls come out of the machine as babies. However, they end up aging several years until they are of age by prom night. Once they reach the age of the person they were cloned from, they die.
  • Skewed Priorities: "Steve, I know you cloned these girls. If the CIA finds out, I'll lose my job."
  • Squick: In-Universe. Steve becomes reluctant to go through with the plan because he and Snot raised their dates from birth, viewing them as essentially their daughters.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: Stan hunting down the cloned girls has several references to Blade Runner. He even wears Deckard's trenchcoat. Glitter's monologue before dying is a parody of Roy Batty's famous Final Speech.
  • Wife Husbandry: Deconstructed. The clones come out as babies, and not knowing what to do, Steve and Snot raise them to be their dates in time for prom. Too bad they ended up forming a paternal attachment to the girls and can't go through with it.
