  • Always Camp: Roger, Mike's friend and recent college graduate with a degree in photography. The writers deliberately turned it up to eleven, exaggerating his character to prove a point: Not all men who act that way are homosexual.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Archie sure seems to think this about Roger.
  • Camp Straight: Roger's obnoxious, off-beat behavior gives Archie the impression that he's gay, but Mike and Gloria are pretty sure he isn't.
  • Closet Key and Coming-Out Story: Steve's reveals to Archie that he is gay.
  • Gay Aesop: The whole point of the episode, as seen through Steve's eyes.
  • Gay Bravado: Archie thinks Steve is putting him on when he reveals his sexual identity ... and that they can still be friends.
  • Gaydar: Archie thinks he's got one when he is introduced to Roger.
  • Ho Yay: Lots of it (in-universe) in this episode, and it's just enough to make Archie call his doctor to refill his blood pressure pills.
  • Manly Gay: Steve, a one-time college and professional football player who enjoys beer with his buddies and a good boxing match on TV.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Or Roger's loud, bright plaid colors.
  • Straight Gay: Archie is stunned when Steve reveals his sexual identity and is asked point blank if he's ever known him to have a romance with a woman, among other things. His other interests, appropriate for men, is another tipoff that all is not what it seems to be.
