Recap / All Hail King Julien S 04 E 07 The King And Mrs Mort

Go To

King Julien is sick and most of the kingdom is away on a party cruise, leaving Mort the interim king, who is immediately tricked into marriage, handing the kingdom over to a mongoose named Pam.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Willie's aggressive dolphins return, this time we can see they were actually sharks.
  • Continuity Nod: Unable to attend himself, Julien suggests simply sending his body double, but Clover reminds him Magic Steve was eaten by a crocodile.
  • Gold Digger: Pam marries kings to take over their kingdoms; Julien is able to successfully get the marriage dissolved when it is revealed that she is still married to most of the other kings on the island.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Mort is the only one available to pretend to be king, as the entire kingdom happens to be away on a cruise.
  • Disguised in Drag: Julien attempts to nullify Mort's marriage by pretending to be a pre-existing wife but Pam sees through his disguise immediately.
  • Foreshadowing: This is the first time the voices in Mort's head are represented as multiple Morts that he imagines are standing around him arguing. This will eventually prove to be a very apt representation of what's actually going on inside his head.
  • Furry Reminder: Everyone acts like Pam being made queen of the Lemur Kingdom makes her the ruler by default. Real lemurs are matriarchal, so their queen would be the default ruler.
  • Shout-Out: Pam's super speed is shown in a scene where time appears to stop while she is moving, much like the Quicksilver scene from X-Men: Days of Future Past; She even grabs a spilling drink out of the air to taste it in the same way Quicksilver does with a soup.
  • Super-Speed: Pam is capable of moving at extreme speeds.
  • Swiss-Army Tears: When Sage's hawk is badly injured, Sage attempts several over the top methods of reviving it, before finally getting it to come to by crying a tear into its eye.
Sage: Sadness is but the mechanism of a winding clock frozen at two in the morning gestating magical tears that have the power... to heal!
