Finn and Jake track down a thief who stole something from Lumpy Space Princess.

Tropes

  • Conspicuous Trenchcoat: Pete Sassafras wears a trenchcoat and fedora.
  • Continuity Nod: Many of the candy people on the train were also travelling on the train in "Mystery Train".
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite his trench coat, pink eyes and Evil Sounds Deep voice, Pete was not the actual perpetrator.
  • Detective Drama: Unlike the Noir Episode of BMO, this focuses more on Finn and Jake using detective skills.
  • Fingertip Drug Analysis: Parodied when the railway cop licks Jake and says he "tastes like police".
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Jake creates a lawyer from his hand with this mindset.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: There's a sign in the drug store that has "Pharmacy" spelled out in katakana.
  • His Name Is...: LSP attempts to explain who stole from her, but passes out because PB gave her such a big dose of sedative.
  • Hypocritical Humour: When Finn and Jake ask Anne if she's seen any suspicious characters coming into her pharmacy, she points out to them that there are so many people who come in and out on a daily basis that the odds of her picking out a specific one as suspicious and remembering them are very low. But then she does exactly that anyway.
  • Mr. Exposition: Anne the pharmacist certainly knew a lot about Pete.
  • Playing with Syringes: Bubblegum has a giant syringe that she uses to calm Lumpy Space Princess.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: It turns out that LSP was being dramatic as usual and trying to explain that the pizza guy stole her heart.
  • Shapeshifting: Lampshaded in this episode, when Finn notes that Jake is turning into cop related objects.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The cut from the drugstore to the railway station has a sound effect similar to that used for scene transitions in Law & Order.
    • When BMO explains that the "blood" was tomato sauce, Jake turns into a Sherlock Holmes style pipe for Finn to "smoke".
  • There Was a Door: Finn tries the door of the hotel room, finds that it's unlocked, then kicks it down anyway.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Pete Sassafras is still locked up in Candy Kingdom jail, even though he was innocent. He may have just been freed offscreen though.
  • Yandere: It turns out the entire situation was due to LSP falling in love with a pizza delivery guy. At the end Finn and Jake find her holding him prisoner.
