Violet, Klaus and Quigley need to work fast to work out what happened to the VFD Headquarters, and come up with a way to rescue Sunny from Olaf's clutches. Olaf's mentors, meanwhile, set their plot into motion, and the Henchpeople start questioning their loyalty...
Tropes
- Pit Trap: An unintentional example; while searching for the Baudelaires in the ruins of the VFD headquarters, Esmé falls through some floorboards into a deep hot tub.
- Play-Along Prisoner: Esmé was capable of freeing herself all along; she just wanted Klaus, Violet, and Quigley to come up the mountain with her - having them pull her vertically up an ice floe was a bonus.
- Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: The Powder-Faced women, Bald Man and Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender all abandon Olaf after he tries to order them to kill Sunny.
- Shout-Out: Sunny refers to the sled with which she comes to Violet, Klaus and Quigley's aid "Rosebud".
- Strange Minds Think Alike: Just like the Circus Freaks in the previous episode, Olaf's former troupe members think of buying a farm and growing rutabagas.
- Waxing Lyrical: When they tell Olaf they quit, The Powder-Faced women state they 'will do anything for love, but they won't do that'.
