"'The Shinning' is an absolutely flawless parody. It hits that perfect trifecta of being faithful to the source, a good fit for the adapting series, and broad enough for people unfamiliar with the original. Doing this parody makes so much sense for the show. It's almost like The Simpsons was a series constructed for the sole purpose of doing this parody. That's how perfect it fits. You have characters like Moe, Willie, and Mr. Burns who slide seamlessly into their roles. You have the father/mother/son dynamic already in Homer, Marge, and Bart, and even find a couple things for Lisa and Maggie to do. [...] I hadn't seen The Shining at the time, but loved the segment from the get-go."
