Fred Coles, the rigger, had a few cutting remarks to make about the rows of medal ribbons that most of them displayed, recalling that that particular country had not had a war for over 100 years and their air force had never seen a shot fired in anger.
There followed some speculation as to how they had acquired so many medals, and some of the suggestions bordered on the obscene.
