The History of Egypt Podcast is a podcast about ancient Egypt hosted by Egyptologist Dominic Perry. It covers a time period beginning in approximately 3150 BC and is planned to run to its annexation by Rome in the first century BC.

Tropes:

  • Awesome Mccoolname: Narmer translates to "angry catfish," which Dominic approves of.
  • Based on a Great Big Lie: The first episodes are largely based off myths and what little can be determined through archaeology.
  • Carry a Big Stick: A mace is a recurring symbol for power in Egypt, going back all the way to the pilot episode, where Narmer uses it to execute a prisoner.
  • Divine Incest: Found in much of Egyptian mythology.
  • Eye of Horus Means Egypt: The Eye of Horus serves as the image art for the podcast.
  • Eye Scream: According to the mythology discussed in Episode 3, Seth gouged out the eyes of Horus and buried them, where they became lotus flowers. He got better, and his new eyes became the famous Eye of Horus.
  • Human Sacrifice: Discussed at the end of Episode 2, seems to have been practiced at the death of a king for about 100 years or so in the days of Egypt's infancy, but was quickly done away with.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: Dominic does this in the first episode with a variation of the classic four Fs.
Dominic: They farmed, fashioned, fought and...reproduced.
