Basic Trope: A character wears an outfit based on another famous outfit.

  • Straight: Alice wears a pink Chanel suit a la the one Jackie Kennedy wore the day her husband was assassinated, and no one ever really points it out.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Alice wears an outfit famously worn by Jackie Kennedy, but not one so recognizable, bordering on Genius Bonus.
  • Justified:
    • Alice admires Jackie Kennedy very much.
    • Alice is a former mayor's wife, and her image consultant wants to make sure people get that she was once a powerful and respected woman.
  • Justified/Exaggerated: Bob, Claire and their family were from a late-50s-to-early-60s sitcom that Matt Groening used to watch.
  • Inverted: Batman wears Bob's least popular outfit.
  • Subverted: Claire wears a strapless green dress with white pearls.
  • Double Subverted: In some episodes. In others she's in full on Marge Simpson gettup.
  • Parodied: Alice admits she stole the actual outfit from Jackie Kennedy.
  • Zig Zagged: In some episodes, Alice's friends jokingly call her "Jackie", other times it's never brought up.
  • Averted: All characters have their own iconic outfits.
  • Enforced: "Alice needs to look powerful, but feminine. How about a Jackie Kennedy look?"
  • Lampshaded:
Alice: "My outfit really looks like Jackie's, doesn't it?"
    Gretchen: "Yeah, it really does."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied:
Alice: "Think I should wear this pink Chanel suit? Nah."
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
