Basic Trope: Outside shots are shot on film, while inside shots are shot on video.

  • Straight: The Troper Family uses video for the inside shots, while film is used for the outside shots.
  • Exaggerated: The scenes inside with a window are filmed with film.
  • Downplayed: Only the scenes near the house are filmed with video.
  • Inverted: The outside shots use video and the inside shots use film.
  • Subverted: The introduction shot uses film, but the rest of the outside scenes use video.
  • Double Subverted: A very video style film.
  • Averted: Both outside and inside shots use the same format.
  • Justified: Due to the production team operating on a limited budget, it's much cheaper to use video cameras for studio shots and cheap, portable film cameras for location shots, as opposed to just shooting everything on film.
  • Parodied: The garden has a problem with film littering.
  • Enforced:
  • Defied: The studio decides to not buy film for this series.
  • Deconstructed: The production company wipes the master tapes to make room for new tapings, meaning that unless the entire episode is set outdoors, half the episode is missing.
  • Reconstructed: Before the wiping, they sold copies to international stations, so fans were able to salvage the footage from those episodes to bring back the indoor scenes.
