Basic Trope: Being bitten by a vampire is violent, messy, and painful.
- Straight: Bob bites Alice, causing her to scream in pain, and leaving large, unsightly punctures on her neck.
- Exaggerated: Bob tears Alice's throat out with his teeth, causing a horrific spray of blood, killing Alice in the process.
- Downplayed: Alice is bitten by Bob and whimpers and squirms in pain.
- Justified:
- Vampires' teeth are sharp, but far from the needle-like fangs of other incarnations of the legend. Tearing through the victim's flesh is a necessary step to get the blood flowing.
- The vampires in the setting are zomblie-like, animalistic beasts with no regards to how hard they bite.
- Inverted: Kiss of the Vampire
- Subverted: Alice cries out in fright as Bob bites down, but quickly settles down after realizing there's little actual pain.
- Double Subverted: Until Bob abruptly tears her throat apart.
- Parodied:
- Other vampires watching Bob feed are put off by how much of a messy eater he is.
- Vampire bites are basically the same as mosquito bites, just a lot bigger.
- Zig Zagged: Bob is capable of a gentler bite that only leaves small punctures, or a more savage attack that shreds his victim's neck.
- Averted: Bob is an energy vampire, who's feeding leaves Alice drained, but doesn't leave any visible wounds.
- Enforced: "To make the vampires scarier, we should make the viciousness of the bite more gratuitous."
- Lampshaded: "Bob, you're actually just wasting a lot of blood. Look, it's getting everywhere."
- Invoked: Bob is capable of delivering Kiss of the Vampire, but he wants Alice to feel pain, so he deliberately tears her neck open as he bites.
- Exploited: Bob kills Alice, a vampire hunter, with a violent bite in order to dissuade other hunters from pursuing him.
- Defied: Bob bites down as gently as he can, trying to spare Alice severe injury.
- Discussed: "It doesn't look like two little puncture wounds. It looks like she was a attacked by a wild animal."
- Conversed: "Why does Bob always feed like that? He's wasting so much blood" "'Cause it's 'scary'."
- Implied: Bob looms over Alice, and moves in for a bite. The camera cuts to outside the house, and we hear Alice screaming in pain.
- Deconstructed: Bob wants to be a Friendly Neighbourhood Vampire, but the only way he can survive is by violently attacking people. This makes him hated and feared by everyone, and he sees himself as a monster.
- Reconstructed: However, he turns to crime-fighting, enabling to feed on criminals, rather than the innocent. This lets him strike fear into evil-doers, and shows innocent people that he's a lesser evil.
