Playing With / Time Zones Do Not Exist

Basic Trope: People go from one place to another without the time of day changing.

  • Straight: Alice and Bob go from Beijing, China to Rome, Italy with both locations in daylight, despite them being far away from each other.
  • Exaggerated: They go from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Beijing, which are both on the opposite sides of the world, and it's still daylight.
  • Downplayed: Alice and Bob go from Los Angeles (the west U.S. coast) to New York City (the east coast). While it should be early morning, it's close enough.
  • Justified:
    • Days go a lot faster in Alice and Bob's world, so it would be logical that it would be daylight in other places way faster.
    • Alice and Bob were traveling westward at the 'speed of the sun', meaning that while their clock time advanced properly, their solar time was … 'halted'.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice and Bob go from Detroit, Michigan to Toledo, Ohio. It's less than an hour's drive south, but the sun goes from high noon to sunset.
    • Alice and Bob walk from one street to the other during the early hours of the morning. By the time they get to the other street (which is allegedly in seconds), it's already 3 AM the next day.
  • Subverted: Alice and Bob land in Rome and see sunlight through a window. But it's actually a giant screen, and it's nighttime when they get out.
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: Time zones literally don't exist in Alice and Bob's world, until someone mentions it.
  • Averted: Time zones in Alice and Bob's world do exist just like in the real world.
  • Enforced: Keeping track of timezones is complicated, so the writers pretend that there's only one timezone that the characters follow.
  • Lampshaded: "Shouldn't it be night time by now?"
