Playing With / The Show Must Go Wrong

Go To

Basic Trope: A theater production goes wrong.
  • Straight: During a critical scene, one of the lead actors, Bob, passes out on stage, prompting a MASSIVE Oh, Crap! from his fellow cast members.
  • Exaggerated: Bob has a long monologue...and passes out at the beginning, which ruins the show.
  • Downplayed: Bob suddenly glazes over, but fortunately, it's when another character is speaking to him, and the scene plays out in such away so that two other characters can discreetly hold him up to make it look like he's standing.
  • Justified: Bob has a mental condition that causes him to bluescreen periodically, though it can be significantly reduced with the proper medication. It was just incredibly poor luck that Bob happened to have a freak zone out.
  • Inverted: The script calls for the play to go horribly wrong, but no matter how hard the actors try, everything goes flawlessly. And for the big scene where Bob is to just pass out, he just can't go unconscious.
  • Subverted: Bob didn't pass out, his acting was just that bad for that particular scene.
  • Double Subverted:...Or so it looked like. As a matter of fact, he did pass out, but thanks to quick thinking from the other actors, they just managed to pass it off as bad acting.
  • Parodied: Bob passes out. All the other actors have quiet panic attacks and perform the rest of the scene very mechanically, all while periodically giving Bob concerned looks...except for Child Actor Alice, who totally missed the fact that Bob is now unconscious, and performs her part normally. The others alternate between staring nervously at Bob and Alice.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Nothing goes wrong.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Bob is an important actor in the play, and the moment he passes out at an important scene, the audience starts leacing the show and gives it very bad reviews, enraging the producers.
  • Reconstructed: However, the host is having none of it, and encourages the audience to return to the theater and stay there until Bob eventually recovers and the show ends. After all, The Show Must Go On, no matter how wrong.
