Basic Trope: The remaining forces of a defeated faction.
- Straight: The Nefarian Empire is defeated by The Federation, but some its forces form the Nefarian Remnants to continue the fight.
- Exaggerated: The Nefarian Empire is defeated, but its leftover forces form the Nefarian Remnants to continue the fight. Which also gets defeated, though afterward some of its surviving members of it form the Neo-Nefarian Remnants to continue fighting. That then gets defeated too, but the leftover members of it form the Super Neo-Nefarian Remnants so they can go on opposing the Federation.
- Downplayed: The Nefarian Empire is defeated, though several officials of it manage to get away, though they aren't in any position to continue fighting.
- Justified:
- Some of the Nefarian soldiers are fanatically devoted to the Empire and refuse to accept surrender.
- The remaining Nefarians are in an isolated location and didn't get the news that the war ended.
- Inverted: The Federation is defeated and conquered by The Empire, but a La Résistance is formed to continue fighting back against the Empire's forces.
- Subverted: The remaining Nefarian forces choose to go into hiding rather than continue the fight.
- Double Subverted: At least until they've rebuilt their forces, at which point they reignite the war against the Federation.
- Parodied: The so-called "Nefarian Remnants" are just four or five dudes who go around spray painting walls to "avenge" the Empire.
- Zig-Zagged: It's unclear whether the Nefarian Remnants are actually comprised of Nefarian forces or just a group of people using the Nefarian's legacy to inspire fear.
- Averted: The Nefarian Empire's forces completely collapse and dissolve after its downfall.
- Enforced: "The Nefarian Empire were popular bad guys. Let's bring back some of them for the next season."
- Lampshaded: "These Nefarians just keep on fighting even after they've been beat."
- Invoked: The Emperor of the Nefarians stations several battalions of his soldiers outside his territory as a contingency plan should the Empire fall.
- Exploited: Following the Nefarians' defeat, The Federation uses the threat of the Nefarian Remnants to set up an oppressive State Sec.
- Defied: The Federation makes a point to track down and defeat any Nefarian Remnants to keep them from posing any further threats.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: The Nefarian Remnants are too small and weak to do much against The Federation.
- Reconstructed: The Nefarian Remnants may not be able to accomplish any major goals, but that doesn't mean they can't ruin lives trying.
- that, or as part of the Emperor's continituty of government plans they reconstitute themselves as a functional state and they manage to recruit enough people to their cause that they are able to pose a sizable threat to the Federation.
