Basic Trope: Character archetype — the effective captain who is usually nicer than his teammates.
- Straight: Clay T. Finnigan is the local quarterback, noted for his powerful left arm and uncannily fast throwing mechanics, and he's a pretty Nice Guy and a Lovable Jock who has to deal with rowdier, more egotistical teammates.
- Exaggerated: Clay is the ultimate Lovable Jock one could ever know (he's so nice that he even gives Kayla some support and encouragement), plus he's pretty much The Ace of his team, as his left hand is so fast it beats out even the strongest baseball pitcher, the strongest javelin thrower, and even the strongest discus thrower all combined, and he can throw a football for up to well over a million yards. By contrast, the entire football team he's in charge of is comprised of nothing but complete and utter scumbags.
- Downplayed: While Clay's leaning more on the Nice Guy side, he is capable of doing a few jerkish moments here and there, but ultimately he's not so bad.
- Justified:
- Clay's dad, who's also the football coach, taught him all about respect. The other footballers unfortunately didn't have such luxuries.
- Being a quarterback gave Clay practice in learning how to lead and direct the group both on and off the field, especially under pressure.
- Inverted:
- Clay is the sole Jerk Jock among his rather affable teammates.
- Clay's team is comprised of Barbaric Jerk Jocks like Linebacker Flash Young, Running Back Cole Ramone, Wide Receiver Eddie Roque, Tight End Harry Oswalt, and Kicker Pete Perkins.
- Subverted: While it seems Clay might be a Nice Guy, he's actually a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing...
- Double Subverted: ...Or that's what Alpha Bitch Gwynn Tracey wants you to think. He's more of a Sheep in Sheep's Clothing.
- Parodied: ???
- Zig-Zagged: Clay tends to have a mood swinging temper every now and then.
- Averted: Clay has a similar temperament as the rest of his team.
- Enforced: ???
- Lampshaded: "The Quarterback's a pretty swell fellow."
- Invoked: In order to be a better leader for his team, Clay takes on a much more moral front to lead his team to victory.
- Exploited: Anyone who's even acquainted with Clay essentially has some influence in the school's hierarchy.
- Defied: Clay's new coach imposes his rule and ensures that everyone on his team is swiftly morphed into a bunch of feral psychopaths. And not even Clay's safe.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
