Go To

Basic Trope: A nun who is also a Sadist Teacher.

  • Straight: Sister Alice is not above smacking her students' hands with a ruler.
  • Exaggerated: Sister Alice doesn't so much punish unruly students as torture them.
  • Downplayed: Sister Alice gives out Saturday morning detentions (complete with Punishment Detail) for even the smallest infractions.
  • Justified: In times past, the Catholic Church was heavy on discipline, and strongly believed that harsh punishments would result in better behavior.
  • Inverted:
    • Sister Alice is the nicest and most easygoing teacher in Our Lady of Tropes School.
    • Alice is a Sadist Teacher, but she is a layperson, not a nun. (She may not even actually be Catholic.)
  • Subverted:
    • Sister Alice does not use corporal punishment.
    • Sister Alice is a Psychologist Teacher.
    • Sister Alice is not a teacher, but a nurse or something.
  • Double Subverted:
    • But her punishments are something kids would find harsh and perhaps humiliating, such as scraping all the gum off the underside of the desks as punishment for chewing gum in class.
    • But she is stern and strict, and she gives ridiculously large volumes of homework.
    • But she is notoriously stern and lays on the Catholic guilt real thick.
  • Parodied: Sister Alice is a ruler-wielding bitch even though it's Saturday...in the summer.
  • Averted:
    • Sister Alice is not a teacher.
    • Sister Alice is a nice teacher.
    • Alice is a layperson, not a nun.
  • Enforced: Write What You Know: the creator was raised Catholic, and went to a strict Catholic school in The '60s with teachers like this.
  • Invoked: Sister Alice is in a bad mood, and her class is being very rowdy and disruptive.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Sister Alice counts to ten, then tells her students they're going to have a test the next day on the material she's attempting to teach, and that they'd better be quiet and pay attention if they want to pass.
  • Deconstructed: Can be emotionally or physically harmful, and is kind of hypocritical for a religion that teaches love and forgiveness. (Which can cause those students to become disillusioned and ironically lose their faith.)
  • Reconstructed: Sister Alice gives appropriate punishments to unruly students, and none of them are physical.
  • Played For Laughs: Sister Alice gives one of her students an Atomic Wedgie or a Swirlie for acting up.
  • Played For Drama: The students are being hurt, and they're becoming disillusioned with the faith that's being taught to them.
  • Hotter and Sexier: Sister Alice is a Dominatrix, and her "students" are scantily-clad Catholic schoolgirls.
