Basic Trope: A certain character gets a disproportionately large amount of attention.
- Straight: When Alice and Bob first started, Charlie was a main character, but after Alice’s introduction, she got very popular, and Charlie got Demoted to Extra.
- Exaggerated: Charlie went from main to minor character so bad, that he got Put on a Bus in Season 2, and later he got a bad case of the Chuck Cunningham Syndrome, he never got mentioned or seen in the show again.
- Downplayed: Despite not appearing as much in the show as he used to, Charlie still is a character.
- Justified: Charlie either disappeared, died, or moved away.
- Inverted: Alice and Bob eat up most of the screen time, Yet Charlie is not gone from the show, just friends with other people.
- Defied:
- The writers of the In-Universe project see that Alice is too cool and would overshadow Charlie, so they rewrite Charlie to be cooler then they initially were aiming for.
- The writers of the In-Universe project decide that Alice is to be Put on a Bus or killed very early in the story and future projects in which she would technically have any appearances remove her entirely.
- Charlie is the one who puts Alice on the bus. Or Evulz kills her.
- Subverted: Charlie breaks up with Alice and Bob, so the duo literally eat up the screen time but they still remember Charlie.
- Double Subverted: But then Charlie gets back together with the duo.
- Deconstructed: After far too much focus on Alice, fans of the series stop watching.
