Basic Trope: An alien culture matches that of an ancient human culture.
- Straight: The Axolites have a culture similar to the ancient Aztecs.
- Exaggerated:
- All aliens have cultures similar to ancient human civilizations, Egypt, Rome, Maya, mediaeval, etc.
- An alien civilization resemble Earth during the Stone Age.
- Downplayed: An alien planet's culture resembles a more recent, but still old, period in human history. Such as the 1800's.
- Justified:
- The Axolites based their culture on the ancient Aztecs, in an inversion of the Ancient Astronauts trope.
- The Axolites are essentially going through the exact same history as humans did; Their technology is remarkably similar to the Aztec age, and their natural enemies, the Carpnites, have a culture similar to 15th Century Spaniards who tote muskets and such.
- Inverted: The Axolites are an extremely advanced civilization compared to ours.
- Subverted: The Axolites possess an advanced technology that the Aztecs don't have.
- Double Subverted: ...which is still primitive when compared to other advanced alien civilization.
- Averted: No alien culture is same as the real world.
- Lampshaded: "This alien planet's temples look strangely Aztec."
