Go To

Basic Trope: A pair of twins have the exact same appearance, personality, hobbies and general thought patterns.

  • Straight: Bob and his twin brother, Rob, looks and dresses the same, often finishes each other's sentences and seems to know what the other is thinking, or going through, even while they are apart.
  • Exaggerated: Bob and Rob always move in perfect sync that one might as well be a mirror reflection / projection of the other. When playing sports, they will project the exact same movements (e.g. kicking, dribbling, etc.), even when only one of them have the ball.
  • Downplayed: Bob and Rob are both nerdy intellectuals, although Rob is slightly more talkative than Bob.
  • Justified: Bob and Rob are genetically identical and have had the exact same upbringing. They grow up to become very similar as adults.
  • Inverted: Polar Opposite Twins.
  • Subverted: Bob and Rob are very similar as children, but as they grow up, Bob becomes more athletic, while Rob is more academic.
  • Double Subverted: Until their teacher tells them that their grades aren't well-rounded, so Bob studies harder, and Rob starts training at the gym, leading to both of them becoming academic athletes.
  • Parodied: Bob and Rob are so similar that nobody knows which one is which, including themselves. Both will answer to either name, and they actually flip a coin to decide who'll answer to which name every day.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob and Rob starts out as identical, but Bob goes through a rebellious phase and starts becoming more wild and outgoing than his brother. Then, he grew out of the phase, and become the studious nerd he and Rob had been before. Later, he and Rob get each gets a girlfriend who are as different as night and day, and their new social circles cause them to develop diverging personalities again. Until Rob breaks up with his girlfriend and starts hanging out with Bob's group, leading him to become Bob-like...
  • Averted: Bob and Rob doesn't have the same personality. They aren't even identical twins.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "Wow, it's like you and your brother can read each other's minds."
  • Invoked:
    • The boys' parents deliberately give them identical clothes, food, toys, education, etc., so that they would grow up to become essentially the same person.
    • Bob and Rob are identical twins but have their own distinct personalities, but occasionally act as if they were Single-Minded Twins for their own amusement.
  • Exploited: Bob's love rival, Charlie, befriends an oblivious Rob in an attempt to dig up dirt on Bob; since whatever shortcomings he could find on Rob would be equally applicable to Bob.
  • Defied: Bob and Rob deliberately wears Identical Twin ID Tag, goes to different schools, or joins different clubs in order to minimize their similarities.
  • Discussed: "I'm Bob." "I'm Rob." "We're identical..." "...twins..." "...with identical..." "...minds..."
  • Conversed: "Why does Rob even need to exist? He's essentially the same character as Bob, but less developed."
  • Deconstructed: Bob and Rob develop identity crisis because everyone around them regards them as interchangeable, and both feels like they are just a spare to the other.
  • Reconstructed: The brothers realise that their similarities just boost their strengths, and that the excellent teamwork they have with each other means that they can accomplish much more together than if they were just one person.
