Basic Trope: A character, commonly in a First-Person Shooter, can use explosive weapons on themselves to increase jump height and/or distance.
  • Straight: Alice's rocket launcher in Alice and Bob - The Movie - The Game, when fired at Alice's feet, allows her to go much further and higher than her regular jumps can.
  • Exaggerated: The entire game revolves around rocket jumping.
  • Downplayed: While the rocket launcher doesn't allow Alice to fly per se, it still boosts her jump height somewhat if used to rocket jump.
  • Justified: The game's heroes are Made of Iron, and can withstand an explosive blast enough to take advantage of its phenomenal propulsion potential.
  • Inverted: When fired in midair, the knockback from Alice's rocket launcher can be used to propel her downwards at a high speed.
  • Subverted: Alice's rocket launcher doesn't give her any distance or height boosts if the player tries to rocket jump...
  • Double Subverted: ...but Bob's grenade launcher does.
  • Parodied: If you fire a rocket at your feet, you are greeted by a humorous cutscene of the Ludicrous Gibs that used to be you flying through the air. The game then chastises you for being an idiot.
Narrator: What did you think was going to happen? You thought this was Quake, didn't you?
  • Zig-Zagged: Only some rocket launchers can rocket jump. Others just blow you up if you try to do so.
  • Averted: There are no explosive weapons in the game.
  • Enforced: The game was made in homage to games such as Quake.
  • Lampshaded:
Alice, mid rocket jump: HOW DOES THIS THING NOT TURN ME INTO SALSA WHEN I FIRE IT AT MYSELF?
  • Invoked: Emperor Evulz fires a rocket at Alice's feet to knock her out of the arena.
  • Exploited: See Invoked.
  • Defied: Alice, the player character, actively refuses to fire a rocket at her feet no matter how much you try to get her to do so, eventually to the point of her calling you crazy.
  • Discussed: "For reasons beyond our understanding, Alice, using a rocket launcher and aiming it at your feet sends you flying a great distance instead of turning you into red mist. Now how's that compared to walking?"
  • Conversed:
    • "How do those shooter game heroes not blow themselves up when they do that?"
    • "Whatever. It's cool."

That trope page is pretty high up. Better Rocket Jump to it.
