Basic Trope: Someone gets turned into a puppet.
- Straight: Bob gets turned into a puppet by Emperor Evulz.
- Exaggerated:
- Evulz turns Bob's entire city into puppets.
- Bob is unable to move at all unless Emperor Evils controls him. There is no cure, not even death. Bob is trapped forever.
- Emperor Evuls turns bob into the entire toy store.
- Downplayed:
- Bob is an object shifter and turns into a puppet to spy on Evulz.
- Bob's tendons are torn out and used as puppet strings.
- Meat Puppet.
- Unwilling Roboticisation.
- Justified:
- Evulz is an Evil Puppeteer and has found his new favorite Black Magic spell.
- Evulz uses a disease that makes the human immobile but still alive. Evulz then attaches strings to Bob's limbs and goes on a rampage while making Bob watch and take the heat.
- Bob should have been more careful about how he wished for that puppet.
- The real boy spell is fading. note
- Inverted: Become a Real Boy.
- Subverted:
- The puppeting spell fails.
- Alice thought the worst when she heard that Bob got turned into a puppet, but "It's a good likeness they've made of me, isn't it?"
- Double Subverted: The second casting turns Bob into a puppet.
- Parodied: Bob gets turned into a Muppet, who then proceeds to trash the Evil Lair and annoy the villain so much that he undoes the curse and leaves.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob becomes a puppet every full moon.
- Averted: Bob does not become a puppet.
- Enforced: "Turning Bob into a puppet is the most obvious tell that he is being controlled by the villain. This can avoid a lot of confusion for new viewers".
- Lampshaded: "Why is every possession spell in this book so obvious? I can't convince anyone that Bob is normal while having to parade him around on strings."
- Invoked: Evulz searches for and finds a staff that inflicts this curse. The emperor proceeds to use it as much as he can so that he can build an army.
- Exploited: Evulz controls Bob during a fight so that he does not have to risk his own life.
- Defied: Evulz does not use the spell and instead shoots Bob so that he does not ever have to deal with him again.
- Discussed: "I have 500 puppets in my collection and will have a 501st if you don't shut up right now".
- Conversed: "If we turn enough of our enemies into our puppets, we will be unstoppable. Instead of only decreasing their army, we can also add to our own".
- Implied: Muffled screaming can be heard from the puppet.
- Deconstructed: Due to all of his organs being turned into plastic, Bob instantly dies.
- Reconstructed: Bob's soul possesses the puppet and he is now a toy eternally.
