Basic Trope: Buttons pop off clothing as a way to show that a character has increased in weight/size.
- Straight:
- Bob tries to put on a shirt that he owned before gaining a large amount of weight, and several of the buttons pop off.
- As Bob turns into a werecat, the buttons pop off his shirt.
- Exaggerated:
- All of the buttons go flying off of Bob's shirt.
- The shirt itself is also completely destroyed in the process.
- Downplayed: Bob increases in size a bit - a button comes loose or pops off, but that's about it.
- Justified: Can be Truth in Television.
- Inverted: The buttons fly back onto Bob's shirt.
- Subverted: ???
- Double Subverted: ???
- Parodied: ???
- Zig-Zagged: ???
- Averted:
- Bob never has any changes in weight/size.
- Bob has Magic Pants (or shirts, in this case), so he doesn't have to worry about clothing getting damaged whenever he changes shape.
- Enforced: To give Bob a Shirtless Scene.
- Lampshaded: "Hmm... I don't think this shirt fits me anymore."
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: Bob uses the button as a projectile weapon.
- Defied: Bob unbuttons his shirt before shapeshifting (or even takes it off completely) in order to prevent the buttons getting damaged.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Played for Laughs: Buttons go flying and hitting Alice and other bystanders, leading to Amusing Injuries.
- Played for Drama: Someone gets seriously injured after a flying button hits them.
