Go To

Basic Trope: When someone gets hurt in a certain part of their body, they say something like "Ow, my [body part]!"

  • Straight: Alice bonks her head on something and says, "Ouch, my head!"
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice gets clonked around and then says, "Ow, my—" and gives a Long List of body parts that hurt.
    • Alice complains about a body part that wouldn't realistically feel pain due to having no pain receptors, like, "Ow, my hippocampus!"
  • Downplayed: Alice bonks her head on something. A few seconds later she mutters "My head hurts..."
  • Justified:
    • Truth in Television.
    • Alice is informing others of where she was injured so they could treat her.
  • Inverted:
    • When a headache Alice had suddenly goes away, she says, "Hey, my head doesn't hurt anymore!"
    • Alice bonks her head on something, and Bob says "Ooh, your head!"
    • Alice somehow injures her body, arms, and legs all at once. She says, "Well, at least my head is fine."
  • Subverted: When Alice says "Ouch, my—", Bob interrupts her.
  • Double Subverted: "As I was saying, ouch, my head!"
  • Parodied:
    • Alice says "Ouch, my soul!"
    • Nations as People say "Ow, my region!" or "Ow, my monument!"
    • Alice, a Sleazy Politician, is caught making a racist remark on a hot mic. "Ow, my electoral chances", she moans.
    • Alice is stripped naked in public. As everyone laughs at her, she says "Ow, my pride." or "Ow, my clothes."
  • Zigzagged: ???
  • Averted: Alice bumps her head and groans in pain, saying nothing.
  • Enforced: Alice is off-screen at the moment, but the audience still needs to know how she gets hurt.
  • Lampshaded: "I guess Alice bumped her noggin."
  • Invoked: Bob deliberately whacks Alice in the head.
  • Exploited: A bad guy knows which part of Alice is injured, and hits her where it hurts the most.
  • Defied: Alice practices being The Stoic.
  • Discussed: "How come when we get hurt, we're like 'ow, my [body part]!'?"
  • Conversed: "Remember when that character said 'ouch, my head!'?"
  • Implied: "I didn't quite hear what she said, but I think she hurt her head."
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: Amusing Injuries.
  • Played for Drama: ???
