Basic Trope: Someone gets anxious despite being a minor role in some kind of Show Within a Show.

  • Straight: Alice is in the School Play, and is playing a character who only appears for a scene. She gets very anxious over it.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice is playing a prop that doesn't even have any lines at all, and still gets extreme stage fright to the point in which she has to drop out of the play.
    • All of the minor roles in the play have some sort of anxiety.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice has a role as a supporting character, but not necessarily a minor character, and is somewhat anxious.
    • Alice has some stage fright, but gets over it.
  • Justified:
    • Alice tends to get stage fright, and decided to play a minor character hoping that she won't get nearly as anxious.
    • Small Role, Big Impact: Alice's one line is the plot's linchpin Wham Line.
    • Alice is a Starving Artist, so she's stresses out over the part since her livelihood is on the line.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice plays the main character in the play and ends up getting anxious.
    • Alice is a minor character in the play, and is very confident about it to the point in which she becomes an in-universe One-Scene Wonder.
  • Subverted: Alice mentions playing the part of an inanimate object in the play, so it's believed that she's playing a very minor character. However, it turns out that the play is about an Animate Inanimate Object.
  • Double Subverted: ...but instead of playing the Animate Inanimate Object, Alice actually does play a non-characterized prop.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • There is no play.
    • Alice doesn't get anxious about being in the play.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Why is Alice so worried about being such a minor role?"
