Basic Trope: A character hides a gut in a corset or girdle.
- Straight:
- Bob goes on a date with his girlfriend Alice, who is slim. After the date, Alice locks herself in the comfort of her own home, removes the corset she wears under her tank top and releases a massive belly.
- At a office party, Alice, wearing a corset, starts talking to Bob, who comments on her weight loss. When he says that, Alice's corset bursts and exposes her gut.
- Exaggerated:
- When Alice takes off the corset, her belly fills up half the room.
- Brenda goes up to Alice and starts poking her gut. Alice's corset bursts, causing her belly to break the window on the other side of the room, knocking Brenda out of the window.
- Downplayed: Alice is only Hollywood Pudgy under her corset.
- Justified: Alice is trying to keep Bob liking her, and uses the corset to hide her real body to keep him from leaving her.
- Inverted: Alice wears a fat suit to hide how lean she's getting. Said suit falls off at a office party.
- Zig-Zagged: Alice turns out to be obese under her corset...but she's wearing a Fat Suit several times bigger than her corset.
- Averted: Alice doesn't wear a corset.
- Parodied: Tony comes to Jane's house to get her for The Squad's lastest adventure and finds Jane in a corset so tight she can barely breathe. Tony cuts the corset off her, causing her belly to smack him in the face and knock him over.Jane: Thanks. That thing was waaaay too tight.Tony: (lying on the floor dazed) You're welcome.
- Enforced:
- Bob makes Alice wear the corset at the office party because he doesn't want anyone to ridicule him for having a fat girlfriend.
- Overweight women having their guts pop out of corsets is a kind of Author Appeal.
- Exploited:
- Alice notices Jack running around and, before he can run into a wall, stands between him and the wall and unzips her corset, causing her gut to act as a airbag.
- Alice buys a corset much larger than she needs to smuggle supplies in.
- Played for Laughs:
- Alice tries to force her body into a very tight girdle to fit into her Amazing Alice superheroine costume. The corset pops seconds after she puts it on.
- Idol Singer Alice goes offstage for a meeting with her manager Bob, accidently leaving her microphone on around her shirt. When Bob tells her that the camera are off, Alice exclaims "Finally, now I can take this thing off!". Cue the sound of her huge belly being released from its confines being broadcast to the audience.
