Basic Trope: A character insists that everything is fine, despite a wealth of evidence to the contrary.
- Straight: Alice has red, puffy eyes from crying. When asked how she's doing, she says "fine".
- Exaggerated: Alice has been crying, is heavily wounded, vomiting, and missing a limb. When asked how she's doing, she wheezes out a "never better".
- Downplayed: Alice admits she's not doing well, but she doesn't clue anyone in to the extent of her issues.

- Alice is meant to serve as a kind of morale booster, so she can't show weakness.
- Alice just looks like she's been crying, she really is fine.
- Inverted: Alice is fine, but laments about the state of her life to anyone who will listen.
- Subverted: "I'm fine! No...that's a lie, actually..."
- Double Subverted: "...because I'm doing awesome!"
- Parodied: Bob, being aware of Alice's nature and the general existence of the trope in question, interrogates Alice for hours as to whether or not she's truly fine. She finally gets him off her back with a simple "I don't need any help".
