Basic Trope: A character is thought to be The Undead despite not being so.
- Straight: Alice sees Bob wandering through the city in the aftermath of a Zombie Apocalypse, blood-spattered and spaced-out. Assuming he's a zombie, she shoots... but he ducks it and yells at her.
- Exaggerated: Almost every "undead being" that Alice has tried to kill is a living person.
- Downplayed: Bob isn't a zombie, but he is succumbing.
- Justified: Bob realized that since zombies don't attack each other, he pretends to be a zombie so he could walk the streets unmolested. Unfortunately, it fools survivors too and could potentially get himself shot.
- Inverted: Alice sees Bob wandering through the city, blood-spattered and spaced-out. She goes to help him...and he tries to take a bite from her shoulder.
- Subverted: ???
- Double Subverted: ???
- Zig-Zagged: ???
- Parodied: Alice persists in mistaking Bob for a zombie even though no reputable stories have emerged about zombies and Bob frantically shows her all kinds of signs that he's clean.
- Averted: No undead beings exist in the world of the story.
- Lampshaded:Bob: Always be sure you're ready to prove you're human as fast as possible. The hunters are about as dangerous to a shell-shocked person as the zombies themselves.
- Invoked: The villain drugs Bob, hoping that either the zombies or the zombie hunters will kill him.
- Exploited: The villain uses Bob being mistaken for a zombie to kill him while maintaining his cover.
- Defied: Alice invents something which changes color depending on whether the wearer is undead or not and passes them out to everyone, so they'll have a reliable test.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
Look out! It's a zombie! [sounds of gunfire] Oh...I guess this was Mistaken for Undead after all.
