Go To

Basic Trope: A character thinks they've died and gone to the afterlife but really they're still alive.

  • Straight: Alice is in a car crash and gets knocked out. She gets taken to the hospital and treated while still unconscious and when she's awake, they let her go outside. Outside, it's in a beautiful park where several people are playing the harp, a man dressed as Abraham Lincoln is seen and so is a woman dressed up as an angel, so Alice thinks she's in Heaven.
  • Exaggerated:
    • This happens to the entire cast.
    • Alice sees her friend Bob in the park, so she thinks he must be dead too.
  • Downplayed: Alice wonders if she might be in Heaven for a bit, but decides that would be silly.
  • Justified: Alice believes in Heaven and she knows she was in a car crash and that car crashes can kill you. She also knows that people are thought to play the harp in Heaven, and it's meant to be nice and she likes the harp, and she thinks the people in costume are real and everyone knows Abraham Lincoln's dead.
  • Inverted: Alice goes to the afterlife and thinks she's still alive.
  • Subverted: Alice is seen staring in wonder at the woman dressed as an angel but it turns out that she just thinks her costume is good.
  • Double Subverted: Then, she sees the people playing the harp and thinks she must be in Heaven.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zigzagged: Alice sees the harp players and the people in costume in the park, so she thinks she's in Heaven, then she stubs her toe so she thinks she must be in purgatory, then she realises Abraham Lincoln can't have spent that long in purgatory so that man must not really be Abraham Lincoln and she must not really be dead.
  • Averted: Alice does not think she's in the afterlife.
  • Enforced: To set Alice up as someone who believes in the afterlife, while throwing in some comedy.
  • Lampshaded: "Wow, I actually thought I was in Heaven!"
  • Invoked: Someone who works at the hospital is a prankster and got those people to dress up and play the harp and stuff in the park so that Alice would think she's in Heaven.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied:
    • Alice refuses to believe in any afterlife.
    • Alice refuses to believe she's dead.
  • Discussed: "How can I tell if I'm in Heaven?"
  • Conversed: "Remember in that episode where Alice thought she went to Heaven? That was hilarious!"
  • Implied: Alice is seen staring at everything in awe.
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: When Alice says, "Am I in Heaven right now?" to the man dressed as Abraham Lincoln, he thinks she's flirting with her.
  • Played for Drama: Alice worries she'll be apart from her family.
