Basic Trope: A giant robot is used to fight a giant monster.
- Straight: Tropezilla is on a rampage, destroying the city. To stop him, the army sends their secret weapon, the Defenderbot X to fight Tropezilla, and they engage in an epic battle.
- Exaggerated: Tropezilla is one of three monsters attacking the city. The army activates Defenderbot X, along with Defenderbot Y, and Defenderbot Z, to engage in a massive three against three battle against the monsters.
- Downplayed: After the last Tropezilla attack, a wall was built between the city and Tropezilla's natural habitat. When Tropezilla tries to break in, Defenderbot X is brought in to help reinforce the wall.
- Justified:
- The army's exhausted every other option.
- This is literally what Defenderbot X was built for.
- Inverted: Defenderbot X is sent not to fight, but to try and make peace with Tropezilla.
- Subverted: The army is about to activate Defenderbot X, but the general vetoes the idea at the last minute, worried that it's just going to make things worse.
- Double Subverted:
- But when the situation gets worse, the general changes his mind, and agrees to use Defenderbot X.
- A desperate lieutenant ignores the general's orders, and releases Defenderbot X anyway.
- Parodied: ???
- Zig-Zagged: The army debates extensively about whether to use Defenderbot X or not. The debate eventually devolves into some people activating Defenderbot X on their own, without orders, and others deactivating it before it could do anything.
- Averted: The army never considers sending Defenderbot X.
- Enforced: Rule of Cool
- Lampshaded: "Look! The army's using their robot to fight Tropezilla!"
- Invoked: A rogue soldier in the army released Tropezilla, to create an ideal scenario to test Defenderbot X with.
- Exploited:
- The citizens take the opportunity to evacuate, while Tropezilla is distracted with the fight.
- The army delivers a sneak attack to Tropezilla's weak point while he's distracted by Defenderbot X.
- Defied: The army absolutely refuses to use Defenderbot X against Tropezilla, since they're afraid of said robot causing as much damage to the city as the monster is.
- Discussed: "Tropezilla's on a rampage! Isn't it time for the army to break out their giant robot?"
- Conversed: ???
- Implied: Tropezilla is seen leaving the city as Defenderbot X powers down.
- Deconstructed: After the battle, the general gets angry at the army, as adding Defenderbot X to the fight caused so much more death and destruction than just Tropezilla would have alone.
